Jay-Z‘s ties to hoops are pretty well documented. Most notably, he owned a stake in the Brooklyn Nets for several years, selling his share of the team in 2013. As it turns out, his ties to the game include a member of his family. Meet Nahziah Carter, a three-star recruit in the Class of 2017 whose uncle Shawn has won more than 20 Grammy Awards.

Carter doesn’t look like he’s committed to a school yet – although he has offers from a dozen basketball programs, according to his 247Sports page. One of those schools is the University of Dayton, where Carter was committed before former head coach Archie Miller took the Indiana job.

He’s the No. 328 prospect in the nation, a 6’6 small forward from Rochester, N.Y. Carter also has insane ups, as we saw in this video of him dunking all over this poor defender.

That guy getting posterized is Marvin Begley, the No. 1 recruit in the class of 2018 who is expected to be a top pick whenever he declares for the NBA Draft.

So yeah, Carter can really get up and make other players look silly. It must help that his uncle apparently goes to his game and watches him play.

Seeing as how Hov’s heading to high school and AAU games, odds are he’ll pop up on the sideline during one of Carter’s college games somewhere down the road. If that’s not inspiration for some school to get Carter on their roster, I don’t know what is.
