Drake has been known to be a bit boastful. In fact, he has a tendency to make unbelievable claims. But even with that in mind, his claim that his new album Views sold 600,000 copies in a day is a bit hard to swallow.

Still, that’s what Aubrey Graham claimed at the release party for his long-awaited follow-up to If You’re Reading This, It’s Too Late. Drake told the crowd he’s moving Adele numbers from the stage.

“I just got a text message that we sold like 630,000 something records in one night,” he said. “That’s the first time I’ve ever done that sh*t so thank you very much.”

While it is hard to believe at first, recent rule changes by the RIAA as far as what constitutes a sale and how streams are counted may have inflated the numbers. For example, streams of singles on the album that are released prior to the full album are counted toward the album’s total streams which are in turn translated into sales. That means that the absolutely inescapable “Hotline Bling” racked up millions of streams prior to the release of the album that were counted as part of Drake’s first day sales.

It remains to be seen how Drake will fare on this week’s album chart. His sales could well peter off given the lukewarm reaction Views has received.
